RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The 173d Airborne Brigade (Separate) was the first Army unit deployed to Vietnam and served in combat longer than any other unit in Army history.

WHEREAS, The 173d Airborne Brigade (Separate) suffered more than 1,750 casualties as a direct result of enemy action, and still suffers casualties among its veterans as a result of the trauma of the war.

WHEREAS, The members of the Society of the 173d Airborne Brigade, who strongly supported construction of the Vietnam Memorial and the Women's Vietnam Memorial, believe that the postwar casualties of Vietnam need to be acknowledged and honored.

WHEREAS, The members of the Society of the 173d Airborne Brigade have been informed of the Vietnam War in Memory Memorial project and find its purpose consistent with the above articulated beliefs and with the By-laws of the Society.

Now, therefore, The members of the Society of the 173d Airborne Brigade, in Convention assembled, by unanimous vote,

  • Endorse in the strongest terms construction of a memorial to recognize and honor the casualties of the Vietnam War who died and continue to die as a result of the war after formal termination of the conflict.

  • Express our support for the Vietnam War in Memory Memorial, Incorporated project in its effort to construct such a memorial.

  • Encourage all who read this resolution to lend their support to this noble and needed effort.

Given under my hand in the City of Boston on this 4th day of July, 1998.
